An oversized boiler cycles on and off, wears itself out and never settles into efficient operation; an undersized one leaves you short of hot water in the morning. We size against the property's heat loss and your actual hot-water demand (bathrooms, outlets, occupancy) rather than copying the kilowatt rating off the old unit.

What a poor boiler installation costs later
A boiler is a component in a system. Installed without attention to what surrounds it, a good appliance behaves like a bad one.
A dirty system shortens a new boiler's life
Old magnetite entering a new heat exchanger restricts flow and causes kettling, cycling and lockouts. It is also exactly the kind of avoidable fault that puts a manufacturer's warranty under scrutiny.
The wrong size is a permanent running cost
Oversizing means short cycling, more wear and no efficiency gain. Undersizing means disappointing showers. Neither can be tuned out afterwards: the appliance is the wrong appliance.

Commissioning, testing and certification

Boiler installation detail: types, flues and system protection
These are the specification points we go through at survey, because each one changes either the price or the performance of the finished installation.
Combi, system and regular boilers
A combi gives instant hot water with no cylinder and suits homes with good mains flow and one main bathroom. A system boiler with an unvented cylinder is the answer where two bathrooms may run at once, because stored hot water is not limited by mains flow. A regular open-vented boiler still fits properties where the existing tank arrangement is sound and there is no appetite for a wholesale change. We measure flow rate at the tap before recommending any of them.
Flue routes, terminals and clearances
Flues are run with the correct falls, supports and terminal clearances from openings, boundaries and adjacent surfaces, and vertical routes are flashed and sealed properly. Where an existing route cannot meet the requirement we tell you at survey, in the quote, rather than discovering it on installation day.
Condensate, gas supply and electrical connection
Condensate is routed internally wherever possible, and where an external run is unavoidable it is sized and insulated against freezing. Gas supply pipework is checked for the new appliance's demand and upgraded when the working pressure at the boiler would not hold. The electrical connection is made to a properly fused and isolated supply.
System cleaning, inhibitor and filtration
Every replacement includes cleaning the existing system, dosing with inhibitor and fitting a magnetic filter on the return. On older or visibly sludged circuits we recommend a full power flush, priced openly, because it protects both the appliance and the warranty.

How long should a new boiler last?
With annual servicing, clean inhibited water and correct sizing, a modern boiler is a long-term appliance. Skipped servicing and dirty system water are what shorten it.
